CRecTech Co-founders Named Inaugural Activate Global Fellows in Singapore
CRecTech co-founders Dr. Lim Kang Hui and Dr. Haw Kok Giap have been selected for the inaugural Activate Global Fellows cohort in Singapore, joining a year-long programme designed to help science entrepreneurs bring hard-tech breakthroughs from the laboratory to market.
Announced by Activate on 8 September 2026, the first Singapore cohort comprises eight founders from five teams: AeroFlux, CRecTech, HealBac, LAPIS, and LoopForBio. CRecTech is the only team in the cohort with two founders selected, reflecting the complementary scientific and commercial leadership behind its technology platform.
Activate's First Fellowship Beyond the United States
The Singapore programme is Activate's first fellowship outside the United States. It is delivered in partnership with Nanyang Technological University, funded by the National Research Foundation Singapore, and supported by Enterprise Singapore.
Launched with a S$12 million commitment, the programme is expected to support up to 20 fellows and 20 co-fellows across three cohorts. Fellows receive a one-year package that includes funding, tailored coaching, technical and business-development workshops, structured mentorship, and opportunities to engage investors and industry partners in Singapore and the United States.
The fellowship is built around a challenge familiar to deep-tech founders: promising research rarely reaches commercial scale through science alone. Teams also need time, market access, engineering resources, experienced mentors, and the ability to form partnerships that can move technology from validation to deployment.
Advancing CRecTech's Waste-to-Worth Platform
CRecTech's CRecREF catalyst technology converts stranded biogas and biomass into affordable green bio-methanol through a simplified, modular process that can be deployed close to the source of the waste. The approach is intended to unlock value from methane- and carbon-dioxide-rich resources that may otherwise be flared or left underused.
For Dr. Lim and Dr. Haw, the fellowship provides a new platform to strengthen CRecTech's commercialisation strategy, deepen technical and industry connections, and accelerate the company's progress from catalyst innovation and pilot validation toward industrial deployment.
The cohort will also take part in U.S. market immersion. Its first visit is planned for the San Francisco Bay Area from 17 to 25 October 2026, where the founders are expected to meet potential customers, investors, and industry partners from Activate's network.
The selection marks another important step in CRecTech's journey to turn Singapore-developed catalytic science into scalable infrastructure for renewable methanol production and industrial decarbonisation.
